Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s unwavering commitment to bolstering the Nigerian Armed Forces against ongoing security challenges during a special Juma’at Prayer marking the upcoming 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.

Speaking at the National Mosque in Abuja on Friday, Shettima honoured the sacrifices of fallen soldiers who “paid the supreme price to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity, as well as the lives and properties of the citizens.”

He expressed optimism under Tinubu’s leadership, stating the nation would soon enjoy “enduring peace and prosperity.”

The event commemorates January 15, annually set aside by the Federal Government to honour the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN).

Recently, the observance was renamed from “Armed Forces Remembrance Day” to “Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day” to equally celebrate serving personnel and remember fallen heroes.

Shettima, acknowledging contributions from the armed forces and other security agencies, led prayers for the deceased: “Our prayer is for Allah to forgive the rest of our deceased officers and men, and may God grant their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.”

He further prayed, “And we pray to the Almighty Allah to continue to protect and empower our armed forces to subdue all the crisis that are bedeviling our nation. And in sha Allah (by God’s grace) in the fullness of time, we shall have an enduring peace and prosperity in Nigeria.”
