Abdullateef Fowewe

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested six suspects in connection with a deadly assault on Police Tactical Teams by suspected armed herdsmen and local militias in Benue State.

The attack, which took place on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Agu Centre in Katsina-Ala/Ukum Local Government Area, resulted in the death of three police officers, with seven others still missing.

Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, is leading ongoing efforts “geared towards rescuing the missing officers and arresting the fleeing suspects.”

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, strongly condemned the attack, calling it “cruel, unwarranted, and an affront on the good people of Benue State.”

The six arrested suspects are currently in custody and “assisting with useful information.”

The IGP in a statement on Sunday by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer, has also “directed the deployment of additional tactical assets to the area” and vowed that “no stone will be left unturned in restoring peace and security in Benue State.”

The Nigeria Police Force has urged the public to “remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies,” as efforts continue to rescue missing personnel, apprehend suspects, and dismantle the criminal networks behind such attacks.
