Six individuals were apprehended by the Lagos State Government for open defecation in the Berger, Lagos as part of the state’s stepped-up crackdown on this public health issue.

This was made known on Wednesday via an X (formally Twitter) post by the State Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.

He stated that the suspects were arrested overnight.

He posted a video displaying the suspects with the caption, “6 individuals arrested overnight at Berger for open defecation.”

However, the initiative follows a recent advocacy campaign aimed at raising awareness about sanitation and the importance of using available public toilets.

The state government had earlier emphasised that anyone caught engaging in open defecation would face legal consequences to deter this unsanitary practice.
