Abia State Governor Alex Otti

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has firmly rejected speculation that he intends to leave the Labour Party for the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The rumour gained traction following a wave of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party in Delta State, which saw former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his successor, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, officially join the APC.
At their welcome ceremony, the duo cited a desire to align Delta State more closely with the federal government.
Addressing the speculation in an interview with Arise Television, Governor Otti dismissed the notion with a laugh, saying the idea of switching parties simply to gain proximity to power was unnecessary.
He said, “Governor Otti is not decamping and my party is not on shaky ground.
“This is Democracy, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu held on to his Alliance for Democracy (AD), Action Congress (AC) Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), before becoming APC. If he was (defection), he won’t be President today. Sometimes, you have to also stand for something.”
Talking about if he’ll leave the LP in the future, he said, “I am not God. I cannot say if there’s no LP tomorrow.”
