The Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, has revealed the primary objective of the proposed tax reform bills.
According to Oyedele, the aim of the reforms is to address the economy in a way that promotes shared prosperity, rather than simply generating more revenue, as some have suggested.
He made this revelation during a town hall meeting organised by Channels Television to discuss the controversies surrounding the bills.
Oyedele said, “The primary objective of the reforms is not to generate more revenue, because I see people get that wrong every time. It is to fix the economy in a way that there can be shared prosperity.
“If your businesses are growing, expanding within and outside the shores of this country, if our individuals are earning incomes and thriving, then taxes will be a natural consequence of that prosperity. So that is really the fundamental objective of the reforms.”
