The operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Kano Zonal Directorate, have arrested popular TikTok influencer, Murja Ibrahim Kunya, for alleged Naira abuse and mutilation.
Kunya was arrested for allegedly spraying Naira notes for fun while staying in a hotel room at Tahir Guest Palace in Kano.
The arrest follows an extensive search by EFCC operatives after she failed to comply with an administrative bail granted to her by the Commission over a month ago.
Authorities acted on a diligent pursuit of Kunya, who had reportedly violated the terms of her bail, leading to her apprehension in the Kano hotel.
Kunya, a TikTok influencer, was initially arrested in January 2025 for violating the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, which prohibits the abuse and mutilation of the Naira.
Following her arrest, she was granted administrative bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) pending her arraignment at the Federal High Court in Kano.
However, when it was time for her court appearance, Kunya absconded, evading the legal proceedings. After weeks of intensive investigation and surveillance, EFCC operatives successfully located and re-arrested her on Sunday, March 16, 2025.
Kunya has since been transferred to the Kano Zonal Directorate of the EFCC, where she is currently in custody, awaiting her arraignment.
This was made known in a statement shared on Monday, via the official X (formally Twitter) handle of the anti-graft agency.
