President Bola Tinubu has named Barrister Ismael Ahmed as the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), tasking him with leading a key programme aimed at cushioning the impact of fuel subsidy removal by providing Nigerians with cheaper and cleaner energy alternatives.
The PCNGi, a major component of president Bola Tinubu’s administration’s palliative measures, is set to “revolutionise the transportation landscape in the country, targeting over 11,500 new CNG-enabled vehicles and 55,000 CNG conversion kits for existing PMS-dependent vehicles, while simultaneously bolstering in-country manufacturing, local assembly and expansive job creation in line with the presidential directive”.
Confirming the appointment on Friday, the Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), Bayo Onanuga, said in a statement, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Barrister Ismael Ahmed as the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi).”
Ahmed, 45, is a University of Abuja law graduate and holds a master’s degree from Webster University, St. Louis. He previously served as senior special assistant to former President Muhammadu Buhari on the national social investment program.
