President Bola Tinubu has approved the postings of 31 career ambassadors and 34 non-career ambassadors/high commissioners to various countries and the United Nations, following their confirmation by the Senate last December.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced the decision in a statement on Friday.

Among the high-profile non-career appointees are Senator Grace Bent to Lomé, Togo; Sen. Ita Enang to South Africa; Reno Omokri to Mexico City, Mexico; Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany; and Prof. Isaac Folorunso Adewole to Ottawa, Canada. Senator Jimoh Ibrahim was posted as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN.

The career ambassadors include Amb. Nwabiola Ezenwa Chukwumeka to Côte d’Ivoire, Amb. Mohammed Mahmud Lele to Algiers, Algeria, and Amb. Muhammad Saidu Dahiru to New Delhi, India, among others.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has secured agrément from the United Kingdom for High Commissioner-designate Aminu Dalhatu and from France for Ambassador Ayo Oke.

Nominations for the remaining envoys have been sent to relevant countries.

Onanuga added that “President Tinubu has directed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should immediately commence the induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and High Commissioners,” signalling a swift rollout of Nigeria’s renewed diplomatic push.
