In a bold reaffirmation of Nigeria’s leadership in clean and sustainable energy, President Bola Tinubu on Monday celebrated the commissioning of WAGL Energy Limited’s state-of-the-art 40,000 cubic metres (CBM) Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) vessel, “MT Iyaloja (Lagos),” at a ceremony in Ulsan, South Korea.

This was obtained in a statement issued by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited on Monday.

Tinubu, represented by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, praised the landmark achievement, stating, “WAGL Energy Limited, NNPC Limited and Sahara Group have shown strategic foresight, technical excellence, and unwavering dedication to expanding Africa’s role in the global clean energy value-chain.”

The newly commissioned “MT Iyaloja” vessel, owned by WAGL Energy Limited—a joint venture between NNPC Ltd. and Sahara Group—is a dual-fuel, fully refrigerated LPG carrier. With its addition, WAGL’s total LPG vessel capacity now stands at 162,000CBM, reinforcing the company’s pivotal role in facilitating clean energy solutions across Africa and beyond.

WAGL’s growing fleet now includes MT Africa Gas, MT Sahara Gas, MT BaruMK, and MT Sapet, alongside the newly christened MT Iyaloja, cementing its capabilities in delivering energy solutions to a rapidly evolving market.
