Tinubu launches personal income tax calculator to promote transparency

President Bola Tinubu has unveiled a new Personal Income Tax Calculator aimed at helping Nigerians understand the impact of the recently signed tax laws set to take effect from January 2026.

In a message posted on X, Tinubu emphasised that the reforms are designed to “never punish poverty or weigh down the most vulnerable” while fostering equity and fairness across the economy.
“A fair tax system must never punish poverty or weigh down the most vulnerable,” Tinubu wrote.
“With the new tax laws I recently signed, taking effect from January 2026, we have lifted this burden and created a path of equity, fairness, and true redistribution in our economy.”
The Personal Income Tax Calculator allows Nigerians to estimate their taxes under the new laws and compare it with their current tax payments.
According to the president, the tool “shows clearly how these reforms protect low-income earners, ensures progressivity, and simplifies compliance in order to deliver a transparent system that works for all.”
The calculator can be accessed online, and Tinubu encouraged citizens to use it to understand how the reforms will benefit them.
He concluded his message with a call to national optimism: “Together, we are renewing hope in the Nigeria of our dreams. Take a bet on our country. Bet on Nigeria to work for you, your family, and your community.”
