President Bola Tinubu has nominated Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr Doris Anite-Uzoka, as revealed in a statement from Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

In the statement released on Tuesday, Onanuga said, “President Tinubu nominates Oyedele as minister of state for finance.”

He added that Anite-Uzoka “will now move to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, as the Minister of State, her third portfolio in the administration.”

The President formally conveyed Oyedele’s nomination to the Senate for confirmation via a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio today.

Oyedele, 50, hails from Ikaram, Akoko in Ondo State.

Until his nomination, he served as chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, which overhauled Nigeria’s tax system.

A seasoned economist, accountant, and public policy expert, Oyedele holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in accountancy and finance from Yaba College of Technology, a BSc in applied accounting from Oxford Brookes University, and has completed executive programs at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and Harvard Kennedy School.

He spent 22 years at PwC, joining in 2001 and rising to Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.

Oyedele also serves as a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and a visiting scholar at Lagos Business School.

The nomination awaits Senate approval amid ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s fiscal framework.
