President Bola Tinubu has postponed his planned trips to the G20 Summit in Johannesburg and the AU-EU Summit in Luanda to prioritize urgent security briefings following recent violent incidents in Kebbi and Kwara States, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy confirmed in a statement on Wednesday.
The decision came after a request from Kwara State’s governor and in response to the recent kidnapping of 24 schoolgirls in Kebbi and a brutal attack on Christ Apostolic Church worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State.
President Tinubu has “ordered the deployment of more security men to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area” and instructed the police to intensify efforts against the bandits responsible for the attacks.
He awaits updates from Vice President Kashim Shettima—who has visited Kebbi on his behalf—and reports from the police and Department of State Services on the Kwara attack.
The President emphasised his commitment, stating: “Security agencies must do everything possible to rescue the 24 schoolgirls, abducted by the bandits and bring the girls back home, safe.”
