President Bola Tinubu is actively overseeing Nigeria’s affairs even while away on a temporary visit to Europe, the presidency confirmed in a statement on Thursday.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, stated, “President Tinubu remains fully engaged in Nigeria’s governance despite being away in Europe.
“His absence is temporary and within the communicated timeframe of about two weeks” and “He has maintained constant communication with key government officials, including issuing directives to security chiefs to address emerging threats across the country.”
However, Onanuga disclosed that the President departed Paris for London over the weekend and is expected to return to Abuja after the Easter holiday to resume duties at Aso Villa.
“The President’s commitment to his duties remains unwavering, and his administration continues to function effectively under his leadership,” Onanuga had written.
He thereby reassured the public that “governance proceeds without interruption”.
This official statement comes amid public concerns over the President’s frequent trips abroad and ongoing security challenges in Nigeria, with critics urging his immediate return to tackle rising insecurity.
However, the presidency maintains that these trips are working visits focused on strategic planning and governance, not medical tourism.
Dailyeconomy reported that Tinubu departed Abuja on Wednesday, April 2, for Paris, France, on a short working visit.
Onanuga noted that the President will during the visit appraise his administration’s mid-term performance and assess key milestones of his administration.
