In a strategic move to bolster Nigeria’s national security, President Bola Tinubu has made a significant reshuffle in the military’s top leadership.
The changes come amid recent coup claims, reflecting the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s security framework.
This was made known in a statement on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Public Communication, Sunday Dare.
The appointments, effective immediately, according to the statement aim to boost professionalism and vigilance within the armed forces.
The new Chief of Defence Staff is General Olufemi Oluyede, who replaces General Christopher Musa. Major-General W. Shaibu takes over as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshall S.K. Aneke becomes Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas is appointed Chief of Naval Staff. Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye remains Chief of Defence Intelligence.
In a statement, the President expressed “most profound appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa and the other Service Chiefs for their patriotic service, and dedicated leadership.”
He charged the incoming leaders to “justify the confidence reposed in them to further enhance the professionalism, vigilance and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”
