President Bola Tinubu on Monday swore in two new commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and two members of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) board at the State House in Abuja.
The newly appointed INEC commissioners are Abdulrazak Tukur, representing the North West zone, and Professor Sunday Aja, representing the South East zone.
The CCB board members sworn in are Ikpeme Ndem from Cross River State and retired Justice Buba Nyaure from Taraba State.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Tinubu urged the appointees to uphold the highest standards of integrity and actively contribute to the progress of their organisations.
He wrote on X (formally Twitter), “This afternoon, I swore in the newly appointed Independent National Electoral Commission commissioners and members of the Board of the Code of Conduct at the State House in Abuja.
“I encourage them to uphold the highest standards of integrity in their roles and actively contribute to the advancement of both organisations.
“Their efforts will play a crucial role in enhancing the effectiveness of our electoral processes and promoting accountability, ultimately benefiting our nation as a whole.”
The swearing-in took place ahead of the Federal Executive Council meeting, with key government officials in attendance.
INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu described the appointments as vital to restoring the commission’s full operational capacity and emphasized ongoing electoral reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
