Founder of The Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) and Chairman of Heirs Holdings, UBA Group, and Transcorp Group, Tony Elumelu, on Wednesday, delivered a keynote address titled “Democratising Luck” at the Legacy Builders Palm Beach Conference, held at the prestigious Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa.
In his speech, Elumelu shared his personal journey from humble beginnings to becoming a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist, emphasizing the importance of empowering young African entrepreneurs.
He discussed the transformative potential of Africa’s youth, highlighting the continent’s youthful population and rapid growth. He also stressed that opportunities must not be limited to a select few but should be accessible to all, particularly young Africans with dreams and aspirations.
“I believe entrepreneurs hold the key to unlocking Africa’s untapped potential,” Elumelu said. “They are the innovators, the dreamers, and the builders who can transform not only their own lives but entire economies.”
Elumelu’s foundation has been at the forefront of promoting entrepreneurship across Africa, with a $100 million commitment to train and fund African entrepreneurs. His work through TEF has reached millions, creating jobs, alleviating poverty, and generating billions in revenue. The foundation now collaborates with organizations like the EU, UN, Red Cross, and the Ikea Foundation to expand its reach and impact.
“Democratising luck is not just about finance; it is about mentorship, knowledge-sharing, and building networks that uplift others,” he remarked, calling on all successful individuals to contribute by becoming mentors, investors, and champions for the next generation of African entrepreneurs.
Elumelu’s message was clear: Africa’s future will be shaped by deliberate action, not by chance. By investing in and supporting young African entrepreneurs, we can drive sustainable change and create a continent full of opportunities.
The event was attended by prominent guests, changemakers, and thought leaders, with Somachi Chris-Asoluka, CEO of The Tony Elumelu Foundation, and Trustee Alexander Trotter joining Elumelu on stage. The Legacy Builders Palm Beach Conference provided a platform for like-minded individuals to collaborate and discuss impactful initiatives for the advancement of humanity.
