Troops engage terrorists in cross-state operation, neutralise several combatants

The Nigerian Army announced a successful offensive operation targeting terrorist elements across Zamfara, Kebbi, and Niger States.

According to a statement shared on X, troops of Operation FOREST SANITY III launched a fighting patrol on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from Maru Local Government Area in Zamfara State through Kaboro and Sangeko to Makuku and Dankolo in Kebbi State.

The patrol, guided by intelligence on terrorist movement, linked up with forces stationed at FOB Rijau and Warari in Niger State.

The combined forces engaged terrorists in a fierce firefight, neutralising several hostile combatants and destroying 18 motorcycles used by the insurgents.

Weapons including AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines were recovered.

The statement noted the sacrifice made by one soldier who “paid the supreme price,” underscoring the high risks involved in the operation.

The statement reads, “Troops of Op FOREST SANITY III launched a fighting patrol from Maru LGA, Zamfara State, through Kaboro and Sangeko to Makuku and Dankolo in Kebbi State, based on intel on terrorist movement on 22 Jul 25.

“They linked up with forces at FOB Rijau and Warari, Niger State, and engaged terrorists in a firefight, neutralizing several and destroying 18 motorcycles. AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines were recovered. Sadly, one soldier paid the supreme price.

“A follow-up on 23 Jul 25 led to more weapon and motorcycle recoveries. Troops remain on high alert amid reports of terrorist regrouping.”

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and security in the region, underscoring that efforts to dismantle terrorist networks remain relentless.
