United States President Donald J. Trump issued a warning to Iran on Wednesday, threatening overwhelming U.S. retaliation if the nation disrupts oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global energy trade.

In the statement, Trump states: “If Iran does anything that stops the flow of Oil within the Strait of Hormuz, they will be hit by the United States of America TWENTY TIMES HARDER than they have been hit thus far.”

He escalated the rhetoric further, vowing, “Additionally, we will take out easily destroyable targets that will make it virtually impossible for Iran to ever be built back, as a Nation, again — Death, Fire, and Fury will reign upon them.”

The Strait of Hormuz handles about 20% of the world’s petroleum trade, making any blockade a potential catastrophe for global markets.

Trump frames the threat as “a gift from the United States of America to China, and all of those Nations that heavily use the Hormuz Strait,” expressing hope it averts conflict: “But I hope, and pray, that it does not happen!”

The alert echoes Trump’s “fire and fury” warnings from his first term (2017-2019) against North Korea and Iran.

It comes amid heightened tensions tied to Operation Epic Fury, the U.S.-led campaign launched March 1, 2026, targeting Iran’s nuclear and missile programs.
