United States President Donald Trump has unveiled a new policy proposal aimed at providing every American child born between 2025 and 2028 with a $1,000 investment account as part of his latest legislative initiative.
Referred to as “Trump Accounts,” this program is designed for all U.S. citizens born from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2028. According to the Daily Mail, the initiative was initially called “MAGA Accounts” but was renamed “Trump Accounts” prior to its approval by the House last month.
The proposal suggests that the government would deposit $1,000 into an index fund for each qualifying child. The investment would be overseen by the child’s legal guardians, with the aim of achieving long-term financial growth through the stock market.
Speaking from the White House on Monday, Trump characterised the initiative as a no-cost solution for taxpayers that would provide future generations with a financial advantage.
“It will make it possible for countless American children to have a strong start in life at no cost to the American taxpayer, absolutely no cost. It’s going to have a huge impact,” he said.
Trump described the proposal as a “pro-family” measure as he works to gain Senate backing for the legislation.
“It is a pro-family initiative that will help millions of Americans harness the strength of our economy to lift up the next generation, and they’ll really be getting a big jump on life, especially if we get a little bit lucky with some of the numbers and the economies,” he added.
