The United States Embassy in Nigeria has issued a urgent security alert on Tuesday, warning of a possible terrorist threat targeting American diplomatic facilities and U.S.-affiliated schools across the country.
The advisory, released amid escalating U.S.-Israel-Iran tensions, calls on American citizens to heighten vigilance near U.S. government sites.
It urges extra caution when visiting key locations, including the U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos.
“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja informs U.S. citizens of a possible terrorist threat against U.S. facilities and U.S.-affiliated schools in Nigeria,” the alert states.
To mitigate risks, the embassy recommends practical steps,“The Embassy recommends that U.S. citizens take additional precautions when traveling to the U.S. Embassy, the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, and U.S.-affiliated schools, to include varying times and routes.”
Citizens are also advised to boost situational awareness, avoid predictable patterns, and closely track local security updates.
However, no specific threats or timelines were detailed in the public notice.
