Massad Boulos, US Senior Advisor for Arab and African affairs in the Trump administration, has commended Nigeria’s government for convicting 386 Islamist militants linked to Boko Haram and ISWAP.
In his statement on Sunday, Boulos stated, “The United States commends the Nigerian government for its strong commitment to expediting trials addressing terrorism and related crimes.
“We welcome the convictions as an important step toward accountability and justice.”
He added, “We believe that timely and transparent legal processes are critical in confronting extremism and reinforcing public trust in judicial institutions. Upholding the rule of law remains essential to ensuring the safety, stability, and long-term security of all Nigerians.”
The statement highlights expedited mass trials that overcame court delays, aiming to boost judicial efficiency and fight extremism.
However, Nigerian replies on X show deep scepticism.
Netizens demand names, mugshots, and proof, while citing ongoing terrorism, alleged government ties to militants, and no visible security gains.
