United States Representative Riley M. Moore, has expressed optimism after a productive meeting with Nigeria’s National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu on Sunday, highlighting concrete steps toward enhancing national security.
The meeting, part of a U.S. Congressional delegation’s fact-finding mission, focused on bolstering cooperation to combat terrorism and protect vulnerable communities.
Moore tweeted, “There were concrete steps and actions discussed at length, that if fully executed, I believe will enhance security across the country for all Nigerians, disrupt and destroy terrorist organizations in the northeast and stop the killing of Christians… particularly in the Middle Belt of the country.”
The conversation also underscored appreciation for Nigeria’s recent efforts, including the rescue of 100 Catholic school children, which Moore described as “a positive demonstration of the government’s increasing response to the security situation” aligned with President Tinubu’s emergency declaration.
The U.S. delegation noted, “The US’ sense of urgency on our concerns was positively received,” with optimism surrounding the newly established joint task force between Nigeria and the U.S. as a “great example” of collaborative security action.
While acknowledging that “there is much work still to be done,” both sides expressed hope for continued open dialogue and a cooperative framework to address ongoing challenges.
“Peace be with you all. God bless the great people of Nigeria,” Moore concluded.
