In a video message, Iren expressed his worries about the increase in false allegations and highlighted the urgent need for a clearer understanding of consent. He disclosed that investigations into the cases brought to his attention indicated that 90% of them were not credible.
Looking back on his initial reactions, Iren acknowledged that he often felt angry and hastily took action against those accused. However, further inquiries often uncovered that many accusations were unfounded.
He mentioned a specific instance in which a woman who initially claimed she was assaulted later referred to the experience in a message as “a nice time,” which raised additional doubts about the legitimacy of some claims.
He said, “In this ministry, 9 out of 10 cases where the women came and said they were sexually assaulted ended up false. The first few cases, I was angry. I called the guy and swore I would jail him until he sent a WhatsApp evidence.
“The girl who claimed she was assaulted said ‘It was a nice time’ in the chat.”
However, he emphasised that ending a relationship should not be a basis for sexual assault allegations, suggesting that some accusations may stem from relationship issues rather than actual assault.
“Ending a relationship should not be a ground for sexual assault allegations,” he added.
