Paul Ibe, a media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed a recent claim that Atiku is planning to run for president in 2027.

Ibe pointed out that a viral video referenced in support of this assertion is actually from 2022, not a new announcement.

This clarification comes in the wake of a video that circulated on X, in which Atiku allegedly told journalists he would make a “formal announcement” regarding his candidacy in upcoming elections.

Many media outlets interpreted this clip as an indication of his aspirations for 2027.

In a statement issued on Friday, Ibe addressed the reports as misleading and provided clarification about the video’s timeline.

The statement reads, “Yes, this was former Vice President of Nigeria (1999-2007), Atiku Abubakar, speaking to journalists ahead of the 2023 PDP presidential primary. He sounded confident because that is what is expected of a man who had worked hard and was optimistic of victory in the primaries of the 2023 election. It is important to provide the context of this video to deprive mischief makers of the opportunity of misrepresenting what this video is all about.”
