Boxing legend Anthony Joshua has been released from the hospital following a devastating road accident on December 29, 2025, that claimed the lives of two of his close friends.

A joint statement signed Thursday by Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy Gbenga Omotoso and Ogun State Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Kayode Akinmade, expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims, Lateef Ayodele and Cina Gami, stating, “The governments of Lagos and Ogun states, once again, commiserate with the families of the two young men who tragically and unfortunately lost their lives.
“We pray The Almighty grant the repose of their souls whilst granting their families and loved ones the fortitude to bear this very sad and painful loss.”
Joshua, described as “heavy hearted and full of emotions over the loss of his two close friends,” was deemed “clinical fit to recuperate from home” after his discharge.
He and his mother visited a funeral home in Lagos to pay final respects before the bodies were prepared for repatriation later in the evening.
Governors Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos expressed gratitude for public support, thanking President Bola Tinubu for his “fatherly support” throughout the ordeal.
The statement also praised the medical team at Lagoon Hospital Ikoyi, noting, “The quality of care and professionalism is truly commendable.”
