President Donald Trump announced Friday the deployment of a massive United States naval force toward Iran, describing it as even larger than the armada sent to Venezuela in 2019, in a bid to force a nuclear deal amid soaring U.S.-Israel-Iran tensions.
Speaking at a White House press event on January 30, Trump detailed the operation, “We have a large armada, flotilla—go out, whatever you want—heading toward Iran right now, even larger than what we had in Venezuela. It’s still in front of the Venezuelan.”
The move, framed by critics as knee-jerk allegiance to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has ignited fierce online backlash.
Social media posts recontextualize Trump’s words as subservience to Israeli interests, especially as pro-Palestinian voices amplify amid the region’s volatility.
