Syrian government forces have retaken control of the Al-Omar oil field—Syria’s biggest and most lucrative energy asset—and the nearby Koniko gas plant from the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), marking a major strategic victory for Damascus.

The advance, captured in newly released video footage, shows Syrian troops calmly inspecting a muddy, rain-soaked compound at the facility in eastern Syria’s Deir ez-Zor region.

Abandoned US-supplied tan Humvees sit parked amid puddles, fenced areas, and industrial infrastructure like pipes and processing towers.

Personnel in dark clothing and one with a pink-red head covering walk through the vacated site, with no signs of resistance or ongoing combat.

Al-Omar generates vital revenue for whoever controls it, while Koniko powers much of the national grid, providing both electricity and economic leverage.

These sites have been under SDF control for years, bolstered by American forces as part of anti-ISIS operations.
