As a Bariga native, Olamide is recognised as one of Nigeria’s most influential musicians, having had a career that spans more than ten years.

Kolade Alabi David, the council chairman whose term concluded on Friday, made the announcement, explaining that this decision was part of an initiative to recognise individuals who have positively impacted the community’s reputation both nationally and internationally through their work and contributions.

The renaming has elicited numerous reactions on social media.
