A thrilling football encounter between City FC Abuja and JKU FC came to an unexpected halt in the 77th minute on Thursday when a swarm of bees invaded the pitch, sending players, officials, and spectators into a frenzy.
The incident occurred during the heated second half of the match, which was being keenly contested before play was abruptly stopped for safety reasons.
As a large cluster of bees descended onto the field, players quickly retreated in panic, while officials immediately blew the whistle to suspend the game temporarily.
Medical and grounds staff swiftly intervened to clear the swarm, while an announcement was made to calm the anxious crowd, urging patience amid the disruption.
Fans attending the game described the moment as surreal and chaotic.
One spectator recounted, “It was unbelievable — one minute we were watching a fierce battle, and the next everyone was running for cover from the bees.”
