Instead, she insisted on being addressed respectfully by her official honorific, OON (Officer of the Order of the Niger).

The occasion saw Oshoala receiving a warm reception from the renowned fans, but as they greeted her with the casual title “Agba Baller,” she immediately corrected them, emphasising the importance of her national honorific over informal monikers.

The term “Agba Baller,” meaning a seasoned or “boss” player, has been widely used by fans and the media to celebrate her football prowess.

However, Oshoala chose to highlight her official recognition, symbolising her status in Nigerian sports and society.

OON is a prestigious national honor awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to Nigeria, and Oshoala’s preference underlines her pride in this achievement.

It may be recalled that President Bola Tinubu conferred the prestigious Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) national honours on the outstanding players and staff of Nigeria’s Super Falcons following their WAFCON victory.
