Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has joined Spain in criticising U.S.-Israeli military strikes on Iran, labeling them a “failure of the international system” for sidestepping the United Nations and key allies.
Speaking at a press conference in Australia, Carney addressed the strikes—which targeted Iran’s nuclear program and began over the weekend—saying they reflect “a failure of the international order.”
He accused Washington and Israel of acting “without involving the UN or consulting allies, including Canada,” amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Carney expressed “regretful support” for the strikes’ underlying goals but urged immediate de-escalation, highlighting Canada’s nuanced position.
His remarks align with recent statements from Spain, which similarly condemned the actions as unilateral.
