In a significant move to honour prominent local and national icons, the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State has officially renamed the famous Charley Boy Bus Stop to the Baddo Bus Stop.
The announcement was made by outgoing Bariga LCDA Chairman, Kolade Alabi, who highlighted the administration’s efforts to immortalise individuals who have promoted the community’s name globally through their talents and contributions.
The renaming ceremony, which attracted attention on social media, reflects a broader initiative to rename streets and landmarks in Bariga after celebrated personalities.
Alongside the renaming of the Charley Boy Bus Stop, several streets were also renamed to honour notable figures such as King Sunny Ade, 9ice (Abolore Akande), Tony Tetuila, Bukayo Saka, and political leaders including Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
These are some of the street that were renamed:
Ilajẹ road now King Sunny Ade road
Bariga Road now Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way
Community Road Akoka now Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu Road
Ajidagan Street now Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street
Charly Boy Bus Stop now Baddo Bus Stop
Ifeanyi Street now Abolore Akande (9ice) Street
Ayodele Street, Ladi-Lak now Tony Tetuila Street
Ilojo Crescent, Obanikoro now Bukayo Saka Street
Alabi stated that the decision to rename the bus stop to “Baddo Bus Stop” – Olamide Adedeji’s popular stage name – was part of recognising local talents and their impact.
Olamide, known widely as a rapper and YBNL label boss, joins the distinguished company of those whose names now adorn Bariga’s key locations.
The renaming has sparked diverse reactions, given Charley Boy’s long-standing recognition in the community.
