In a strong rebuttal to recent claims, the Chief of Defence Operations of the Nigerian Armed Forces has firmly denied any involvement in the payment of money to criminal groups.

This response comes in the wake of an interview given on Sunday by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who alleged that the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) was complicit in such activities.

On Monday, the ONSA, through spokesman Zakari Mijinyawa, condemned the allegations as “false and baseless.”

The statement emphasised that neither the office nor any government agency under the current administration has ever engaged in ransom payments or provided inducements to criminal elements.
