China’s Foreign Ministry has issued a rebuke to the United States, demanding it “immediately” lift decades-long sanctions on Cuba and remove the island nation from its list of state sponsors of terrorism.

Spokesperson Lin Jian while talking said, “China again strongly urged the United States to, in accordance with the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter as well as basic international standards, immediately cancel sanctions against Cuba and remove Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.”

The call comes amid Cuba’s worsening fuel crisis, which has grounded flights, disrupted power supplies, and strained everyday life for millions.

Jian specifically urged the US to “immediately end its economic blockade and sanctions on Cuba,” framing them as the root of the island’s woes.

China’s statement responds to recent moves under President Trump, including a national emergency declaration and threats of new tariffs.

Beijing condemned these as “violations of international norms,” positioning itself as a defender of Cuban sovereignty.
