In a dazzling display of AI prowess, China’s Unitree Robotics unveiled humanoid robots performing synchronised kung fu routines – complete with high kicks, flips, and agile maneuvers – for German Chancellor Friedrich Merz during his visit on Thursday.
The demonstration, held at Unitree’s facility in Hangzhou, showcased the company’s bipedal bots executing precise martial arts moves, underscoring Beijing’s push to lead in artificial intelligence.
Merz, on a trip aimed at bolstering Sino-German trade amid global tensions, witnessed the robots’ dexterity firsthand, spotlighting Unitree’s reputation for affordable quadruped and humanoid models that rival Western competitors.
Known for its cost-effective robotics, Unitree’s tech highlights potential avenues for industrial collaboration between China and Germany or fierce competition in the sector.
Recent peer-reviewed studies on humanoid agility benchmarks affirm China’s rapid progress, with these bots matching or exceeding peers in speed and precision.
