This ruling came pending the hearing of their bail applications.
Justice Emeka Nwite delivered the order during Tuesday’s proceedings, extending it to Malami’s co-defendants: his son, Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami, and associate Hajia Bashir Asabe, identified as one of his wives.
The judge’s decision followed arguments from the defence team, led by Joseph Daudu (SAN), and prosecution counsel Ekele Iheneacho (SAN).
The case stems from a 16-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), marked FHC/ABJ/CR/700/2025. It accuses the defendants of conspiring to conceal, disguise, retain, and indirectly acquire over N8.7 billion in proceeds of unlawful activities.
The allegations involve bank accounts, corporate fronts, and real estate transactions over nearly a decade.
