The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has returned to Nigeria following a brief medical trip abroad.

A recently circulating video shows Edun at Fraser Suites, Abuja, where he held a closed-door meeting with a Qatari delegation alongside Dr Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment.

Last week, reports emerged that Edun had fallen ill, traveling from Abuja to Lagos before going overseas for medical treatment.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed last week that the minister had been “indisposed,” which required Central Bank Governor Olayemi Cardoso to represent Nigeria at the World Bank and IMF annual meetings in Washington, D.C.

Onanuga later shared footage of Edun at the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London, highlighting that the minister was on “an officially sanctioned few days of rest from the rigours of managing the Nigerian economy.”

With Edun’s return, he is anticipated to resume his critical role as Nigeria intensifies efforts to stabilise the economy.
