In his address at St. Peter’s Basilica on Saturday, he emphasised true strength through “serving life with evangelical simplicity,” quoting St. John XXIII: “The benefits of peace will be felt everywhere — by individuals, by families, by nations, by the whole human race.”
Echoing Pius XII, the pope added, “Nothing is lost by peace. Everything may be lost by war.”
The remarks followed Israeli PM Netanyahu’s claim that Israel had “crushed” Iran’s nuclear program, missiles, and regime in a 13-minute speech.
They contrast with ongoing US-Iran peace talks in Islamabad, US intelligence doubts on the strikes’ impact, and fragile ceasefires tied to Lebanon and Hezbollah, as an Iranian delegation negotiates in Pakistan.
The Vatican’s focus on dialogue highlights a push for de-escalation amid rising tensions.
