The $460 million system, which is capable of intercepting incoming aircraft, drones, and missiles, was officially handed over to the Turkish army during a ceremony at the headquarters of defense contractor Aselsan.
Erdogan stressed that developing domestic defense technology is essential to Turkey’s security strategy.
He said, “We are fully aware that we cannot afford to leave our security to chance.
“No country that fails to develop its own radar air defenses and electronic warfare capabilities can face today’s security challenges or look to the future with confidence. The fine line between being at the table and being on the menu is defined by a nation’s ability to defend and strike from the air.”
