Ngige was arraigned on Friday before Justice Maryam Hassan on an eight-count charge reportedly bordering on misuse of office, contract fraud, and receiving gratification.
The court, after the charges were read, ordered that he be kept in Kuje correctional facility pending the determination of his bail application.
According to the charge sheet presented in court, prosecutors allege that Ngige abused his office in the award and execution of multi-billion-naira contracts and received illegal benefits in the process.
The case has been adjourned for the hearing of the bail application, while the former minister is to remain in custody until the court rules on his request for bail.
