Prominent Nigerian human rights lawyer, Femi Falana has criticised the United States for underestimating Iran’s military resolve in the ongoing 2026 Iran-U.S. war, urging global powers China and Russia to step in as mediators.
In an interview, Falana remarked, “America never thought, in spite of its so-called invincibility, that Iran would go this far. We need to persuade China and Russia to intervene because those are the two countries, apparently, that Iran would listen to.
“America is in trouble because Mr. Trump has begun to blame his advisers: ‘You never told me that Iran was this powerful.’”
The conflict, sparked by collapsed negotiations and Israeli strikes late last year, has intensified with relentless U.S. airstrikes since early March 2026.
