Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has taken a bold step towards national food security and women empowerment by unveiling a personal vegetable garden at the State House Residence, planting a variety of seven nutritious vegetables including spinach, watermelon, bitter leaf, ewedu, lemon grass, scent leaf, and okra.

This garden is not just for her household but serves as a beacon encouraging Nigerian women to embrace home gardening through the “Every Home A Garden” competition she champions.

Addressing the unveiling, the First Lady underscored the role of women as leaders in the country’s food security efforts.

“This little garden will provide enough healthy vegetables for my household, and I would definitely be able to let some of my staff have them as well,” she said.

“The solution to any problem lies in everyone contributing their own quota to getting that solution. As a leader, I must show example and plant my own garden.”

The initiative also highlights the medicinal value of the vegetables grown and promotes the concept of smart gardening.
