In a dramatic White House gesture defying Nobel Committee rules, 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Corina Machado presented her medal to President Trump, hailing him as a key ally in Venezuela’s fight for democracy.
The opposition leader sat down with Fox News’ Rachel Campos-Duffy on Fox & Friends, recounting the “emotional moment” during their meeting.
When pressed on the Committee’s prohibition against transferring the prize – especially to Trump – Machado stood firm.
“Because he deserves it. I decided to present the Nobel Peace Prize Medal on behalf of people in Venezuela,” she said.
Machado, banned from office and a leader in Venezuela’s disputed 2024 elections, credited Trump’s support amid tensions with Nicolás Maduro’s regime.
The symbolic handover drew sharp divides: Trump supporters praised it as recognition of US involvement, while critics dismissed it as “stolen valor” or undignified theater.
