Galatasaray suffered a surprising 1-0 loss to Kocaelispor in the Turkish Süper Lig on Sunday, ending their 19-match unbeaten league run.
Despite dominating possession (65.7%) and creating more shooting opportunities, Galatasaray was unable to break down Kocaelispor’s resolute defense.
In a dramatic moment during the 83rd minute, Victor Osimhen appeared to score an equalizer after a cross from the left.
However, following a lengthy VAR review, the goal was ruled out due to offside — not on Osimhen, but on teammate Gabriel Sara, who was positioned offside near the Kocaelispor goalkeeper.
When asked about the disallowed goal after the match, Osimhen showed resilience, saying, “It happened and I have moved on from that. I have to travel and focus on my national team.”
His focus now shifts to representing the Super Eagles of Nigeria, who are set to face Gabon on Thursday in a crucial World Cup qualifier playoff.
Kocaelispor’s win was historic, marking only their seventh victory over Galatasaray in 41 Süper Lig encounters, coming days after Galatasaray’s dominant 3-0 Champions League triumph against Ajax.
