The billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, has declared himself the largest individual taxpayer in U.S. history on Wednesday, boasting of paying over $10 billion in taxes while playfully lamenting the lack of recognition from the IRS.
In a video, Musk said, “I’m the largest individual tax payer in history. I pay over $10 billion in tax.”
He elaborated with humour, adding, “I’m the largest individual taxpayer in history, so I paid ten billion dollars in tax. Over 10 Billion Dollars In Tax. You’re welcome!”
Musk continued his lighthearted gripe, revealing his expectation of a small token of appreciation: “Like… I sort of thought maybe that IRS would send me a little trophy or something like that. It doesn’t have to be expensive, it could just like one those things you get when kids win at karate competition. Like a little plastic gold trophy or something like that. Or cookie, but I didn’t get anything.”
Despite the jest, Musk affirmed his willingness to contribute, “But I was happy to pay the taxes. I don’t mind.”
