United States President Donald Trump has dismissed the idea of ordering a U.S. special forces mission to capture Russian President Vladimir Putin, hours after American troops nabbed Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, a key Putin ally.
In a White House briefing, Trump responded directly to reporters’ questions about targeting Putin over the Russia-Ukraine war.
“I don’t think it’s going to be necessary. I’ve always had a great relationship with him (Putin). I’m very disappointed,” he said bluntly.
Trump boasted of his past record, claiming, “I settled 8 wars.”
He added that he expected this conflict to rank “in the middle of the pack or maybe one of the easier ones.”
Citing recent tolls, he noted, “Last month they lost 31,000 people, many of them Russian soldiers, and the Russian economy is doing poorly.”
Figures aligning with late-2025 Ukrainian reports of around 33,000 monthly casualties.
