Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi has stated that the death of top security official Ali Larijani in an Israeli airstrike will not undermine the Islamic Republic’s robust political framework, amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.

Larijani, a longtime key advisor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and head of Iran’s recent war cabinet, was killed in the strike on March 17, 2026.

The attack represents a significant escalation in the long-simmering conflict.

In a defiant address, Araghchi emphasised Iran’s institutional resilience.

“I do not know why the Americans and the Israelis still have not understood this point.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has a strong political structure with established political, economic, and social institutions. The presence or absence of a single individual does not affect this structure,” he said.

He acknowledged individual influence while downplaying its impact, “Of course, individuals are influential—some better, some worse and less. But what matters is that the political system in Iran has a very solid structure.”

The remarks come as Iran vows retaliation, with state media reporting heightened military alerts along its borders.
