Iran has launched a massive barrage of 137 missiles and 209 drones at the United Arab Emirates on Sunday, scoring a direct hit on the bustling Sharjah Mega Mall and sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky amid a skyline dotted with Islamic minarets.

The strikes mark Iran’s fierce retaliation for U.S.-Israeli attacks on February 28, 2026, that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, plunging the region into unprecedented escalation.

Eyewitness video, geolocated to Sharjah, an emirate bordering Dubai shows the multi-story shopping hub engulfed in flames, with UAE air defenses intercepting most incoming projectiles but failing to stop the mall strike.

One confirmed death was reported in Abu Dhabi, where additional impacts rattled the capital.

UAE authorities swiftly closed airspace across Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi, stranding travelers and halting flights at key trade hubs.

As a BRICS aspirant, Iran’s assault strains longstanding Gulf ties, threatens to disrupt Dubai’s role as a global commerce nexus, and could accelerate UAE alignment with U.S. security pacts amid rising fears of broader conflict.
