Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi highlighted the Super Eagles’ unbreakable team spirit as a key driver behind their strong showing at the AFCON 2025 tournament, crediting a deep “sense of brotherhood and family environment” for elevating their performance.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Iwobi contrasted the current squad’s maturity with past editions, noting how players are now “entering their prime” and fostering exceptional chemistry both on and off the pitch.
“For me, I feel like the difference is a sense of brotherhood and family environment that we create for each other.
“Of course the previous AFCONs have done really well. The team has been so strong, but at the same time they were young, learning about one another,” Iwobi said.
He emphasised the cultural roots of this unity, describing it as a “big community” of “big families” that inspires fierce loyalty.
“Right now everybody entering their prime. They are doing well, respecting people in front, receiving joy and chemistry.
“That’s what makes our country.
“You can see them fighting for each other. So I feel like that brings out not only me but all of us,” he added.
Iwobi’s comments come amid Nigeria’s promising campaign in Morocco, where the three-time AFCON champions have relied on cohesion to navigate a competitive group stage and quarter-final.
