Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has accused the United States of coveting Iran’s vast natural resources and strategic position, likening current tensions to the pre-1979 era when America allegedly dominated the country for over three decades.
In a speech amid escalating U.S.-Iran standoffs, Khamenei highlighted Iran’s “many attractions,” saying, “Iran’s oil is an attraction; Iran’s gas is an attraction. The rich mines of Iran are an attraction. The strategic and geographical position of Iran is an attraction.”
He charged that Washington seeks to “take possession of this country, just as they did before,” when “the resources were in their hands, the oil was in their hands, the politics, security, and global relations were in their hands. They did whatever they wanted for 30 years.”
Khamenei dismissed U.S. criticisms on human rights as “just worthless words,” insisting the real motive is “greed,” with Iran standing firm as an “obstacle.”
He added, “Their hand has been cut off. They want to return to the same state as the Pahlavi era. The nation of Iran has stood firm… It will continue to stand firm, and God willing, it will make the other side despair of its malice and harassment.”
He also warned that any American military action would spark a broader regional war, reinforcing Iran’s narrative of sovereignty against perceived imperial ambitions.
